Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

At its beginning, Edge of Tomorrow is intriguing, interesting and funny, but it rapidly becomes a snowball of sci-fi explosions and plot expositions without any personality. It gets repetitive, boring, and inconsequential, turning the spectator into an hamster in a maze of actions that feel more like a numerical expression than an actual story. The aliens are uninteresting (and a copy of The Matrix's sentinels) and bland, and Emily Blunt may get on your nerves with her macho soldier role. The supporting characters are just plain, annoying stereotypes. All this could have been great if we were in front of a sci-fi film that would play with itself on this and not take itself too seriously. The film is not set in a serious mood, but it is not meant to be light either. It is an average flick that has already been done hundreds of times before and brings nothing to the table except for some good funny Cruise moments and action sequences. The incredible praise upon its reception must have been the result of a general hallucination. I can't explain it any other way. The movie is plain average and will provide nothing more than a good popcorn afternoon. The Source Code, among other films of the genre are far superior.
