Fist of Fury (1972)

Fist of Fury, also known as The Chinese Connection, is Bruce Lee's second martial arts film, and probably his best. One year before the westernisation of Mr. Lee's martial arts with Enter the Dragon, Fist of Fury delivered a pure and simple story, just with the right characteristics to sustain a perfect martial arts film where the main man shines throughout. Here, Bruce Lee returns to Shangai to the martial arts school he attends, just to find out about the mysterious death of his beloved teacher. Now, revenge will be sought. The story is intriguing enough to grab the audience's complete attention, builds up to a sober climax, and it has that 70's action film simplicity feel that just adds to the pleasure of viewing. However, adding to the incredible fighting scenes, Fist of Fury has more ideas than it meets the eye. The clash between chinese and japanese inhabitants in Shangai on the early 19th century brings a more personal and social approach to the movie delivering a perfect big picture. It will keep you excited, tense and probably jaw-dropped. Fist of Fury is genuine, pure, well directed and depicts the best martial arts Bruce Lee has to offer. Hence, it is probably the best martial arts movie ever done...
