Short Term 12 is another great movie from 2013. It tells the story of a mid-20s foster care supervising staff member, who watches over minors with special needs, mostly from trauma. The main character is portrayed by Brie Larson, who does a great acting job. This young actress is undoubtedly one to keep an eye on. I will not lie, Short Term 12 is an indie movie, whatever that means. It is a low budget, shaky camera movie with an unusual sense of sensibility. The movie begins with an unsure feel, and it is not clear whether we are going to see some pretentious indie crap film or a truly artful one. Well, Short Term 12 is neither and manages to distinguish itself from those stereotypes. The plot and screenplay is its strongest argument, developing in a sober, solid and suspenseful way through the 96 minutes. The movie has the gift to make you care as an spectator. Care about the characters, their fate, their relations... It is a modern and raw tale about reality, trauma, will and love. What a great movie.
