The recycling of old 80s and 90s action heroes has been a trend for the last few years. Movies like Die Hard 5, Expendables or The Last Stand pretty obviously don't pretend to be considered artistic masterpieces, but instead a familiar experience of old heroes that return for a fun caricature of themselves. That is what happens in Escape Plan. Stallone and Schwarzenegger deliver a delightful entertaining movie, specially Schwarzenegger, whose comedy vein is at its finest here, resembling some of his old comedies. What a pleasure to watch! Plus, the appearances of Jim Caviezel, Vinnie Jones, and Sam Neill add for an even better time. Still, the movie feels like a hobbie instead of a fully grown homage for the 80s and 90s action genre, and it ends up focusing more on the common action hero/villain stereotype than on the caricature homage itself, and obviously the mindless plot-holes take place. Escape Plan is a greatly entertaining movie that shows clearly that Stallone and Schwarzenegger are here to stay for a long time.
